ReligiTour: How Religious Heritage Supports Local Development
![]()
Can religious sites be more than just spiritual and historical spaces?
In the ReligiTour project, we demonstrate that they can! They can become an important element of local community development β ββsupporting community building, creating new jobs, strengthening the local economy, and developing sustainable tourism based on respect for heritage, culture, and residents.
The project resulted in the creation of comprehensive educational materials aimed at various audiences:
for local community leaders, representatives of religious communities, churches, and activists β on how to responsibly manage places of worship and utilize their potential for the good of the local community;
for trainers and educators β on how to support local communities in building economic potential around religious sites;
for tourism entrepreneurs and those just considering starting a business β on how to develop tourism offerings in a sustainable, responsible, and long-term manner;
for academic lecturers and students β on a modern approach to managing tourism related to religious sites, with examples, exercises, and practical case studies.
Everything has been prepared in the form of separate but coherent materials and a ready-made e-course that shows, step by step, how to combine religious heritage, education, entrepreneurship, and local development.
This knowledge can truly help communities better utilize their potential β while respecting tradition, local identity, and the principles of sustainable development.
