REMEDY 2.0 – Recalling Memories in Diversity 2.0

REMEDY 2.0 (Recalling Memories in Diversity 2.0) is an international project implemented under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) Programme. Its aim is to strengthen democracy, promote active citizenship, and enhance the resilience of European societies to disinformation and manipulation.

The project is based on the belief that the memory of Europe’s democratic transformations in the 20th century can serve as an inspiration for building an informed and engaged society. By combining history with modern educational tools and digital storytelling, REMEDY 2.0 encourages citizens to participate actively in democratic life while strengthening shared European values.

Project Objectives

The main objective of the project is to increase citizens’ engagement in democratic life by enhancing their understanding of European history, the values of the European Union, and the contemporary challenges facing democracy.

The project aims to:

• promoting active citizenship and encouraging citizens’ participation in public debate;
• strengthening awareness of democracy, citizens’ rights, and the functioning of European Union institutions;
• combating disinformation, manipulation, and the distortion of history by developing media literacy and critical thinking skills;
• fostering international cooperation and dialogue among citizens from different European countries;
• enhancing the resilience of societies to polarization and threats to democracy.

Target Groups

The project is primarily addressed to individuals who can play a significant role in strengthening European democracy, in particular:

• young adults (18+);
• people with a migration background and migrant communities;
• representatives of civil society organizations;
• educators, trainers, and teachers;
• representatives of public authorities and policymakers;
• all citizens interested in European history, democracy, and active participation in civic life.

Results

The implementation of REMEDY 2.0 will contribute to:

1. increasing citizens’ knowledge of democracy and the functioning of the European Union,
2. developing participants’ ability to recognize disinformation and critically evaluate information,
3. strengthening participants’ civic competences,
4. establishing an international network of cooperation among organizations and citizens,
5. developing educational materials and digital tools to support civic education,
6. producing a European multimedia campaign and a documentary film showcasing the experiences of the project’s participants.

Added value

REMEDY 2.0 demonstrates that history is not merely a story of the past, but a valuable lesson for today’s societies. The project connects historical memory with innovative educational approaches, using digital media and active citizen participation to strengthen the resilience of democracy.

Through the collaboration of partners from eight European countries, participants gain insight into diverse historical and social experiences, learning from one another while strengthening their sense of a shared European identity. The project promotes dialogue, solidarity, equality, and active citizen participation in public life, creating lasting outcomes that will continue to benefit communities and organizations well beyond the project’s lifetime.

Planned Activities

As part of the project, eleven international events will be organized across eight European countries. These will include, among others:

• international civic debates;
• workshops on democracy, historical memory, and civic education;
• training sessions on countering disinformation and developing media literacy skills;
• activities using digital storytelling;
• expert panels and meetings with policymakers;
• international exchanges of experiences and good practices;
• the development of multimedia materials and public awareness campaigns promoting European values.
• Each event will draw on significant moments in European history and explore their relevance to contemporary democracy. Participants will have the opportunity to jointly examine the challenges facing Europe and develop ideas and solutions to strengthen civic engagement and democratic participation.
